Jaren Ziegler - Violist

​About

Named a Classic FM Rising Star for 2025, Jaren Ziegler won the BBC Young Musician Strings Final in 2022 aged 16, becoming the first violist in the competition’s history to do so. 

He is currently the only British student at the Kronberg Academy, studying with Tabea Zimmermann on the Professional Studies course. 

He has been invited to perform as a soloist with the BBC Philharmonic, London Mozart Players, RCMJD Symphony Orchestra, Bristol Symphony Orchestra, Royal Orchestral Society, Opera North Youth Orchestra, Schubert Ensemble, Albion Orchestra, Purcell School Orchestra, London International Concert Orchestra at the Last Night of the Proms at St Judes and has toured with the Northern Chamber Orchestra. 

As a recitalist, he has been invited to Ryedale, Cheltenham, Bath, Two Moors, Lammermuir Festivals and series including St George's Bristol, Ripon Concerts, Music in Adderbury, 1901 Arts Club and the Holywell Music Room. 
 
A passionate chamber musician, he has performed at festivals including Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Verbier, Traume Sonore (Mantova), Polliphonic (Munich) and venues such as Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Victoria Hall Singapore and Brahms-Saal Musikverein. Next season, he will appear at Melbourne Recital Centre, Ukaria (Australia) and Wigmore Hall as part of the Kleio Quartet and Boswil Music (Switzerland) as part of a YCAT Residency.

Jaren is grateful to have performed chamber music with artists including Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Nicola Benedetti, Marc Bouchkov, James Baillieu, Ryan Wigglesworth, Mark Wigglesworth, Adrian Brendel, Sini Simonen, Elena Urioste, Trio Concept, Heath Quartet and Doric Quartet.

He has recently joined the Kleio Quartet, BBC New Generation Artists and winners of the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition 2023. 

Jaren began playing the viola at age 6 and moved to the Junior Royal Academy of Music two years later to study with Jacky Woods. He began his undergraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music studying with Hélène Clément.

He has participated in masterclasses including with Tabea Zimmermann, Antoine Tamestit, Nobuko Imai, Lawrence Power, Timothy Ridout and Amihai Grosz. 


Jaren is grateful to YCAT for their generous support in their aftercare scheme for BBC Young Musician finalists. He plays a Stefano Scarampella viola, kindly loaned to him by the Beare’s International Violin Society.
